Evolution of Classroom Instruction

TEACHING THE DIGITAL GENERATION
THROUGH INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY

“Anyone Born since 1991 are members of the DG: Digital Generation and yet the typical U.S. teacher still uses teaching methods similar to those employed before the Civil War.” - Edutopia, July 2009

The role of the classroom teacher is being ransformed from the “Director of Knowledge” to the “Facilitator of Learning” and shifting from ‘Front of Board’ stationary delivery to full student engagement throughout the classroom.

INTERACTIVE SMART BOARDS 3D PROJECTORS AND

10’ SCREENS for MULTIMEDIA PROJECT PRESENTATIONS

“Students no longer learn about flowers by reading about their parts in the science book, instead they will see a flower bloom through time-lapse photography .... in seconds on a 10-foot wide video screen,” - Jeff Williamson, Principal, Old Adobe Elementary School

“Teachers will be able to engage this new generation of Digital Generation students,” Cristy Pollak, Teacher, Corona Creek Elementary School

ADVANCED SOFTWARE STUDENT RESPONSE SYSTEMS

Assessment of Learning Tools bypass the need to wait for test results and provide immediate feedback to teachers.

MEMORIZATION TO CRITICAL THINKING

“Visual thinking systems use technology to activate the frontal lobe of the brain to deep thinking, contemplation and articulation required to engage in thoughtful discussions involving art or other subject areas.” - Ken Schwinn, Principal, La Tercera Elementary School

Embracing Diverse Learning Styles

DEVELOPING POWERFUL ENGLISH LEARNING STRATEGIES

Did you know that 83% of McDowell School students are English Language Learners? Extensive research shows that the use of visuals for successful English Language Development (ELD) is an absolute necessity.

“Visuals provided by a PEF grant will help our ELL students ‘access real-world, multi-dimensional images to construct meaning and build vocabulary.” - Maureen Rudder, Principal, McDowell Elementary School

ENGAGING STUDENTS

“For those who learn best by doing, touching and feeling the advantage of a hands-on approach fulfills their need for activity through metal fabrication and ornamental ironworking.” - Danny Ashwanden, Agriculture Arts Teacher, Petaluma High School

“The California standards didn’t morph into something new upon using the LCD projector, but the way students responded and interacted and the depth to which students understood was altered in ways we hadn’t anticipated.” - Catina Haugen, Teacher, Grant Elementary School

HEALTHY LIFESTYLES
